RE: California Registration/Lic Fees On Your Trucks?

We paid $456 for the 05 Duramax 2500HD this year.. and $250 in OHV fees for 5 of our bikes. Luckily I have 3 of the "toys" due next year.. couldnt imagine having to pay for all 8 at once at $50 each... hey pass the KY!

RE: Marine Corps and Johnson Valley

If you recreate and ride in the Johnson Valley area, NOW is the time to get involved. if you are not part of an off-road organization, join one now. let them hear our voices over this matter. we can only win with numbers on our side. send a letter to your representative in congress and one to Jerry Lewis-R, the representative that covers Johnson valley OHV area, here is a sample if you wish to copy and paste a letter: The Honorable Jerry Lewis U.S. House of Representatives 1150 Brookside Ave. J-5 Redlands, CA 92313 Dear Congressman Lewis: I am writing to you today because my family recreates in the Johnson Valley OHV Area, which is located in your district. I am aware that the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) at Twenty-Nine Palms, California, has recently submitted a withdrawal application to the BLM for a large portion of the Johnson Valley OHV Area. In a time of war, the need to properly train our soldiers should be our highest priority. At the same time I think it is important to recognize the fact OHV recreation has become a very popular form of family recreation in Southern California. There are over one million registered off-highway vehicles (OHVs) in the state of California alone and that number does not include street legal 4-wheel drive vehicles. According to the California State Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division (OHMVR), between 1980 and 2007 the amount of registered OHVs has increased 370%. During that same time the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) states, “Since 1980 the amount of land available to recreate on for green sticker vehicles (OHVs) has shrunk 48 percent in our deserts alone.” Johnson Valley OHV Area is 189,000 acres and is a major destination recreation area for motorized use. It is also the largest open OHV area in the country. My family and I spend quality time together in this area. We ride together recreationally and some members of my family participate in the competition events put on by the American Motorcyclist Association, District 37 (AMA D37). Because of the area’s size and unique terrain, most of these events cannot be held anywhere else in the State. If this area were to be taken partially or in whole by the Marine Corps it would have a devastating effect on the Southern California OHV community. My family and many like mine spend hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to participate in this form of recreation. Closing this area would negatively impact the economy of the Lucerne Valley and the surrounding counties. The majority of the users of this area do not live in Lucerne Valley, but in the neighboring regions. They purchase their off-road, camping, and associated equipment in the communities where they reside. My family and the families we recreate with, request that you encourage the Marines to find a different area to fulfill their training needs. But, if the Marines find it absolutely necessary to take all, or even portion of Johnson Valley, we would like you to ask the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to demand acre for acre mitigation. This “no net loss” to public OHV recreation land will assure a proper balance on public lands. Through congressional designation you could reclassify land currently off limits to off-road enthusiasts. This “no net loss” policy will also ensure the future economic health of Lucerne Valley and the surrounding areas that depend on income from this type of recreation. Sincerely, Thank You! we need ALL off-road enthusiasts to be invloved in this fight. there is plenty of land to the east that can accomodate the Marine Corp without taking land from tax paying, off-road enthusisats.

RE: Is this a good deal??

well, I will tell you this.. we went there one afternoon after work (not evening, before 5 PM) to see what they had to offer. we had CASH in hand and were ready to buy a trailer. apparently we got there just before they wanted to close. Fine. if you dont want to show us any trailers, then just let us know that you are closing and could we come back on a different day. at least be nice about it. the guy, "Jerry" was so RUDE and obnoxious about it all, that I - all 5'5" of me - had to get in his face and tell him that his language was NOT acceptable in front of my children (who were in a stroller, asleep until his yelling). I dont care how great a deal they offer, H*LL WILL HAVE TO FREEZE BEFORE THEY WILL SEE ANY OF MY MONEY. and I will tell EVERYONE I can to avoid them like the plague. "Grumpy old man" is an UNDERSTATEMENT.

RE: Is this a good deal??

lets see, one recommendation to deal with Jerry and one to avoid him? anybody want to break the tie? bumpy I will... DONT DO GO THERE... they might have some good deals but in my opinion, they way they treat people is outrageous. and by continuing to buy from them, only validates the way they treat people. some things are more important than money. and right now, you should be able to make just as good a deal at another dealer as you can with them.

RE: Weekend Warrior, the good memories

We love ours and could care less what anyone says about it. Ditto..we have a 2004 FS3000 that we bought used and it has held up wonderfully for us. WW wasnt my first choice, but could not refuse the deal we got on it. I am SUPER glad I let DH talk me into it.

RE: Extended warranty?

I work for an RV repair shop and I am the one who deals with the extended warranty companies on a daily basis. They are more worth it for motor homes, than TH or TT. Like the previous poster said, your appliances generally come with their own warranty (gen/fridge/stove/micro/AC). My suggestion (having worked with a large number of different companies) is to purchase an EXCLUSIONARY contract. that is, the contract specifically lists what is NOT covered. everything not listed is COVERED. some INCLUSIONARY contracts are worded so that the part/failure item must match their description EXACTLY. and you can buy one on your own - not at the dealership (you know they make money off it if you buy it from them). One of the best companies I have worked with is Good Sam - they have great policies (EXCLUSIONARY).

RE: WW Weekend Warrior BBB Rating

That being said, we own an 04 WW FS3000 and have been EXTREMELY happy with it in the year that we have had it. We did buy it used (but barely) and have been told that we are lucky to have the 04 since that was the last year WW used the one piece zieman chassis to build on. and trust me, we are not gentle with it. we drive it down what is probably the "worst dirt road in So Cal" several times a year in order to race. Those conditions will weaken any trailer structurally - no matter how careful you are. They are called TH but NO trailer is designed to handle the type of off road driving we do. they are just not built for that. We are lucky, my husband is an RV mechanic and has been for the last 12 years. so I know if I have any issues I know where I can turn to for help. Ours is an '04 as well, has the same frame, and has never been offroad, and I hope noone here has the same problems we're having, it really stinks. ...and no offense, but unless your husband can remove your trailers sidewalls, re-glue the outer skin, and replace it, he'll be of no use if you have similar problems. Well, maybe I should have said he is an RV Technician. Lucky for me he can do this type of repair, and has. We (I work in the office) not only do RV service but also have a full body shop. I have seen the underside of a trailer's walls. So I know what is involved in a repair of your nature. and that is actually the reason we chose to go with a trailer with wood studs instead of metal - I have seen the atrocious job of welding they do on these trailers. I hope everything works out for you and this repair.

RE: WW Weekend Warrior BBB Rating

My husband and I are friends with a guy that WAS the Quality Control/ Parts Dept Manager for WW. Notice, I said was. that is because he was no longer allowed to perform QC on a unit prior to completion - that would hold up production. All QC was done after the fact and only if the dealer pointed something out or it came back by the customer for warranty work. That being said, we own an 04 WW FS3000 and have been EXTREMELY happy with it in the year that we have had it. RE: Eastern Sierra Trout Opener Pics

Cant wait.. we will be in the area in August. we have never camped up near June Lake before (we will be at Silver Lake), so we are excited about it this year. Usually we are down in Rock Creek, behind Tom's Place. but our WW FS30 wont make the loop in East Fork so we thought we would try a new location. Hope there's still fish when we get there in August!!!

RE: Weekend Warrior Quality

I too am a WW owner - and let me tell you it was NOT the one I had originally wanted. my husband is a RV mechanic (for 12 years) and we had our sights set on a couple of different manufacturers (skyline and thor to be exact) but "stumbled" across an OUTSTANDING deal on a WW that came into our shop for repairs, so we bought it. and I have to tell you that I am EXTREMELY HAPPY with my TH. only after we had bought it, did I learn some things about WW. (we have a friend who was the Parts Manager here in at one of their So Cal factories)Like SAS said, quality does change because of popularity and volume, and it is the truth when he says they felt it was "easier" to fix the items - if found by the customer - after the fact than slow production. we were told most WW from 2004 and back are good, its the newer ones that are having more of the quality control issues. So, that said, everyone has their opinion and their likes and dislikes. working for an RV service center, I have seen a lot of TH.. and if I were buying new, I would ONLY consider a thor product (Vortex is my favorite), skyline (Rampage) or a raptor. Like I said, I am a WW owner and I wouldnt buy a new one again!

RE: Workhorse LCD dashboard display

I work for an authorized Workhorse dealer in so Cal... yes the cluster can be a bit pricey ($300-$400 if you have to pay for it), but it should not take more than 1 hour labor to remove and replace the cluster. and when we send it to Actia, we do 2 day shipping and have the customer done in 4 days usually. also, if you have an extended warranty with hi-tech coverage, then the cluster is usually covered by your warranty. but first, contact Workhorse, never hurts to try the manufacturer first.
